The primary duties of this position are to inspect buildings and structures in the process of construction, alteration or repair for compliance with applicable building codes, approved plans and specifications and other regulations and ordinances related to public health, safety and welfare. Under the supervision of the Building Official, the position performs inspections and/or plan reviews for all types of building and structures for compliance with State Building Codes as well as local rules and regulations. The position meets with developers, designers, contractors and owners to help identify and resolve issues.

To examine residential and accessory buildings for compliance with applicable state and local codes and ordinances; and to perform related work as required.

Plans Examiner 1:
This is the entry level class in the Plans Examiner series. This class is distinguished from the Plans Examiner 2 by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including reviewing plans for buildings and structures within the limits of specified Plans Examination certification.

Plans Examiner 2: This is the full journey level class within the Plans Examiner series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Plans Examiner 1 by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including the possession and maintenance of various professional certifications as outlined below in the Special Requirements section. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

This class is distinguished from the Senior Plans Examiner in that the latter reviews plans for multi-unit residential and commercial buildings as well as residential and accessory buildings.

Plans Examiner, Senior: This is the advanced journey level class in the Plans Examiner series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series including reviewing multi-unit residential and commercial structures. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

Plans Examiner 1: $17.93 - $24.85 / hr.
Plans Examiner 2: $20.82 - $28.85 / hr.
Plans Examiner, Senior: $24.74 - $34.26 / hr.

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm. Occasional overtime as needed.
